John Cottrell account book, 1807-1848.

John Cottrell account book from Sand Lake / Poestenkill, Rensselaer County, N.Y. Contains accounts of farm work, making clothing and footwear, drawing wood, etc. Includes hired hands, listing their work, wages, and items purchased from Cottrell. Also contains a record of work Cottrell performed for the Town of Sand Lake, such as that for the poorhouse, and bridge and highway inspections. The book was continued by John's son George Cottrell after John's 1842 death.

John Cottrell was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts on December 15, 1776. He died in Poestenkill, New York on August 10, 1842. He was married to Sarah (Davitt) Cottrell with whom he had nine children.
